3-Channel video installation, in a continuous loop, 2011
This work was filmed simultaneously through the windows of a moving tram using three separate cameras. The footage was then edited with a one-second time gap between each of the three clips. Although a single second may seem like a very short interval, the resulting videos can be interpreted as representing the past, the present, and the future.
However, when all three screens are presented together, the viewer is tempted to perceive them as a single continuous landscape unfolding outside the tram windows. The three different images, despite their temporal shifts, appear to coexist in the same space and time.
This work suggests that we live, or wish to live, within such illusions of time and space.
이 작업은 세 개의 카메라로 움직이는 전차 안에서 창을 통해 보여지는 풍경을 동시에 촬영한 것이다. 이렇게 촬영된 영상은 각각 1초씩의 시간적 차이를 갖고 편집되었다. 1초라는 시간은 극히 짧은 시간이지만 1초의 시간적 차이를 가지고 편집된 세 개의 영상은 엄밀히 과거와 현재와 미래라는 구분으로 나뉠 수 있다.
그러나 3개의 화면을 통해 동시에 각각의 영상들이 보여지면 우리는 마치 하나의 풍경이 전차의 창을 통해 보여지는 것처럼 착각하며 그 3개의 이미지들은 같은 시공간에 놓여 있다고 믿고 싶어한다.
본 작업은 이러한 시간과 공간의 착각 속에서 살고 있는 또는 살기를 원하는 모습이 우리 속에 있다라는 지적을 유도하고 있다.
